How to Live a Normal Life Again, After Injury

When people get a bad injury, their life is changed forever. Not only do they have to go through the treatment and recovery process, but they have to go through the process of trying to move on.

If people are in pain, they tend to turn to doctors who will give them painkillers and then they don't have to bother with it anymore. However, taking painkillers masks further injury. So people might be causing themselves more harm and they won't even know that they have done it.

Therefore, they might turn up at the doctors one day and when they want to access the injury before they prescribe more tablets, they might get a nasty shock. Painkillers are good for when the injury first occurs and through the initial recovery, but once that stage is over, they must try and wean themselves off the pills.
If you are in this position, then you will know that this can be a hard process. You might feel that you still need the tablets because you are still in pain, but there are times when the pain is actually gone and what you are feeling is all in your head.

You will have trouble coming off the pills, not because you are addicted to them, but because you honestly don't think that that you can live a normal life without them. When this happens, you need to get help straight away.

Therapy
If your doctor is sure that your injury is healed and you shouldn't be able to feel pain at all, you should ask for an alternative opinion. If that opinion is the same as the previous doctor's, then it is time to seek therapy.
This is because the feeling of pain is in your head and you are only using the pills as a safety blanket. The problem here is psychological and it needs to be treated just like any other illness.
The therapist will work with you to make you see that you aren't in any pain and the pills are not doing anything for you, anymore. Taking pills for a long period of time is very dangerous because you will eventually become immune to them. Then, when you do need the pills for something else, they won't work for you.

Chiropractor
If you are still genuinely in pain when you don't take the tablets and you have medical evidence to back this up, then you will need to see another doctor, who specializes in chiropractic injuries.
You see, the problem with just getting help from your GP or the ER is that they don't specialize in the long term solutions. They are under pressure to get patients in and out of their offices, so they will give you pain killers rather than trying to treat the actual injury.

A chiropractor will look at the actual injury because that is what they are trained to do and they only see patients with injuries. They don't have to deal with patients who have illnesses as well.
Chiropractors prefer to look at the injury and try and fix it so that their patients do not have any more pain. However, their philosophy is to try and get their patients to the point where they don't need medicine anymore and they can live their lives as free as they used to, before the injury.

Recovery Time
If you are unsure whether or not you have passed the stage where you need help, you should do some research and see how long it would usually take for a similar injury to heal. If you have gone passed this time period, then you should get help.
